The Kamasouptra Story

A passionate love of steamy, hot soup and an overwhelming desire to put Portland, Maine on the map as the World’s premier soup destination consummated by a relationship with the Public Market House…and Kamasouptra was born.

Soup has been an integral part of human history since time immemorial. With its bounty of fresh soup-making ingredients and its perfect soup-eating climate, we believe Maine is the spiritual home of soup.

The founders of Kamasouptra journeyed from the four corners of the globe to this soup mecca with one purpose – to keep the people of the Greater Portland area supplied with the most phenomenal soup the universe has ever seen.

Mike began his culinary career in the kitchen of his parents’ guesthouse back in Scotland many moons ago. Several years and a culinary degree later, Mike found himself working under Iron Chef contender Chef David Bull at the 5 star Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas, where he met Drew Kinney. Having won an award for his Gumbo while at culinary school, Mike decided to commit fully to his love of soup. He studied under Austin legend The Soup Peddler and explored soup recipes gathered from all over the world before heading Maine-wards to carve his own way as a soup-maker extraordinaire.

With the boundless enthusiasm of a six foot two leprechaun, Drew brings not only energy but outstanding culinary flair to the Kamasouptra enterprise. Drew journeyed from his native Iowa to Austin, Texas, where he earned a degree from the Texas Culinary Academy and a place on Chef David Bull’s award winning kitchen team. From the fine dining Driskill Grill it was back to Iowa to the wholesome delights of fresh local ingredients at the Motley Cow Cafe in Iowa City. A quick phone-call informing him of the dawn of a new soup era, however, and Drew packed up his knives and headed for Maine to join his fellow soup-lovers.

Recognizing that her brother’s near pathological obsession with soup needed to be channeled productively, Sarah stepped in. With her people skills, financial acumen, and experience in business management, Sarah is the glue that holds Kamasouptra together. Sarah has traveled to Maine from Scotland via most major cities in the US, and is here to ensure that your soup questions are answered and your every soup-related desire is fulfilled.

While traveling around the world, Joe got wind of Kamasouptra's success and instantly turned his motorcycle around and headed north to assist in his brother and sister's new venture. Within a year, he'd signed up their 100th wholesale account and can now be found driving around the back roads of northern New England selling their delicious soup.
